REPORT T0: Development & Technical Services Committee
DATE OF MEETING: June 22, 2009
SUBMITTED BY: John McBride, Director of Transportation Planning
PREPARED BY: Jeramie Lewis, Traffic Technologist
WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 5
DATE OF REPORT: May 29, 2009
REPORT NO.: DTS-09-089
SUBJECT: AVALON PLACE - ON-STREET PARKING
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the on-street parking regulations on Avalon Place be changed to "No Parking
Anytime" on the north side from a point 105 metres east of Southmoor Drive to a point 14
metres east thereof ;and further,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Transportation Planning has received a written request from the property management group of
30 Avalon Place to review the existing on-street parking regulations, immediately in front of 30
Avalon Place. The request cited the need for spick-up and drop-off zone for the elderly
residents of 30 Avalon Place.
REPORT:
At the present time, on-street parking is permitted on both sides of Avalon Place for a maximum
period of three (3) consecutive hours, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law
No. 2007-138.
Transportation Planning has reviewed this issue and, in order to address this request, is
recommending to prohibit on-street parking at anytime on the north side (even house number
side) of Avalon Place, from a point 105 metres east of Southmoor Drive to 14 metres east
thereof, as per the attached plan. This will allow for a safe pick up and drop off location for the
residents and visitors of 30 Avalon Place, in close proximity to the buildings main access
However, this proposed parking prohibition would result in the loss of approximately two (2)
available on-street parking spaces. However, ample on-street parking supply will still be
available.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The approximate cost for signing including installation is $500 and will be taken from the
existing sign maintenance budget.
