HomeMy WebLinkAboutEnv 2009-09-17 - Earth Day Canada - Community Environment Fund Earth Day Canada (EDC) Community Environment Fund Application Guidelines About the EDC Community Environment Fund The EDC Community Environment Fund provides grants of up to $20 000 to support local environmental initiatives and projects in Ontario. As a result, not-for-profit organizations and schools have a greater opportunity to create and inspire sustainable environmental action in communities across the province. Criteria Grants will be awarded under the Program to applicants that demonstrate: (i) Greatest Need Demonstrates a need for funding Tackles an environmental issue or need Engages diverse members of the community (citizens, schools, community groups, businesses, etc.). (ii) Most Innovation Proposes a creative and comprehensive work plan and fiscally responsible use of the budget Includes creative program reach, duration and intensity Incorporates innovative enhancement of existing or model programs Incorporates appropriate program evaluation methods. (iii) Greatest Likelihood of Sustainable Impact Exhibits greatest likelihood of sustainability (program and behaviour) once the grant period is over Well-chosen program objectives Implemented using model programs, or components from model programs Executed in appropriate program setting 1 EDC COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT FUND APPLICATION GUIDELINES 416.599.1991 www.earthday.ca/envirofund ë ó ï Includes comprehensive program reach, duration and intensity Demonstrates significant potential impact on the community Demonstrates cost effective use of budget and resources. Eligibility Applicants for the EDC Community Environment Fund must be affiliated with a not-for- profit organization or school in Ontario. To be eligible for a grant, a project must Be a not-for-profit or charitable organization, volunteer group or school Be open to the public Have a strong volunteer involvement component Engage the local community Be located on publicly accessible property Have a plan to be sustainable beyond the life of the grant Demonstrate quantified benefits and achievements to the environment Have signed approval of the school’s principal if it is a school application Must be completed within one year of receipt of the grant. The following would not be eligible to receive grants from the Fund Requests from for-profit organizations or individuals Fundraising initiatives Scholarships, grants or bursaries Projects outside of Ontario Projects completed before the application review Technical or scientific studies and reports Lobbying, political or fraternal organizations Any organization whose activities or core values are inconsistent with the core values of Sobeys and Earth Day Canada. Granting Periods and Timelines The EDC Community Environment Fund offers two granting periods per year. Granting Period I : Applications for the first granting period will be accepted beginning submission deadline of August 31, 2009 June 1, 2009 with a . Winners from this grant period will be announced on October 14, 2009. Granting Period II : Applications for the second granting period will be accepted submission deadline of February 28, 2010 beginning October 15, 2009 with a . Winners from this grant period will be announced on April 22, 2010. If the deadline falls on a statutory holiday or weekend, please have your application postmarked no less than the previous business day. Applications that are not postmarked on time will not be accepted. 2 EDC COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENT FUND APPLICATION GUIDELINES 416.599.1991 www.earthday.ca/envirofund ë ó î To be eligible for a grant under the EDC Community Environment Fund, the proposed project must be completed within one year of receipt of the grant. Your work plan and budget plan should reflect this time period. Conditions for All Successful Applicants All successful applicants will be required to sign a Letter of Agreement, agreeing to funding terms, conditions and deadlines. The Letter of Agreement will outline in detail what is required of the applicant over the life of the grant. Upon completion of the project, all recipients will be required to submit a detailed report to the EDC Community Environment Fund. The report must include – among other elements – evaluation results, before-and-after photos of the projects, photos of the project during development, and any media coverage and promotional materials. Submitting the Application All applicants are required to submit all documents listed in Part E of the application. This includes your organizations year-end financial statements; not-for-profits should include a letter of the auditor. Applications must be submitted by email, mail or courier and postmarked by August 31, 2009 for the first granting period, and February 28, 2010 for the second.
