BUDGET UPDATE Ms. Kwiatkowski advised that she and Mr. D. Bellamy had met with staff to discuss how budget dollars are currently being allocated and how this would be handled in future. She also advised that agencies that have been receiving funding from this Committee were contacted and advised to begin to seek alternative funding sources as the City of Kitchener is facing budget cuts. She noted that the agencies contacted expressed their appreciation for the funding support the City has been able to provide to this point. In addition, members were reminded that $5000.00 has been set aside for work that the Committee may wish to pursue in the current term. How these dollars will be spent will be determined once the work plan is finalized. 2. TERMS OF REFERENCE The Committee was advised that Council unanimously approved the revised Terms of Reference for the Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee. 3. WORK PLAN DEVELOPMENT Ms. D. Campbell attended and provided a recap of the process followed to date in developing a work plan for the remainder of the Committee's term. She commented that work done to date has provided a good foundation and the final step is to include one or two action items under each of the two focus areas already identified. Ms. Campbell circulated a strategic framework outline which stated the Corporations "Community Vision" as found in the "Plan for a Healthy Kitchener" as well as the Committees purpose and scope as noted in the newly approved Terms of Reference. She reminded the Committee that at an earlier meeting, the following two priority areas of focus had been agreed to, being; • access, equity and inclusion; and, • community and civic engagement. Ms. Campbell advised that the goal of today's meeting was to brainstorm action items under each of the two focus areas. Committee members then formed into groups for discussion and brainstorming purposes, keeping in mind the general parameters and guidelines as already agreed to: • two priority focus areas; • use of partnerships and collaboration; • strategic, high level role of the Committee; • achievable goals within 15 months / 12 meetings; and, • use of available staff resources. The listing of ideas were debated and, in some cases, issues put forward by members were linked with ongoing groups and / or work and deemed not appropriate for inclusion in the work plan of this Committee.
