Lorentz, Chair, and Members of the Community Services Committee Date of Meeting: October 26, 2009 Submitted By:Safe & Healthy Community Advisory Committee Prepared By: L. Palubeski, Manager of Program and Resource Services L. Korabo, Committee Administrator Ward(s) Involved: All Date of Report: October 16, 2009 Report No.: CSD-09-061 Subject: SAFE & HEALTHY COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE WORK PLAN (2009 / 2010) RECOMMENDATION: That the Safe and Healthy Community Advisory Committee Work Plan (2009 / 2010), as attached to Community Services Department report CSD-09-061, be approved. BACKGROUND: In accordance with the recommendations of the 2008 Advisory Committee Review, the Safe & Healthy Community Advisory Committee, with the assistance of staff, were required to develop and implement a work plan for the current term. Accordingly, at the May, June and September meetings, members discussed suggestions on the types of things that they would like to see the Committee accomplish. Staff then developed a draft Work Plan based on the Committee’s identified priorities. REPORT: At the October 6, 2009 meeting, the Committee considered the draft Safe & Healthy Community Advisory Committee Work Plan (2009 / 2010), which described various action items and tasks under two main areas of focus. The areas of focus are: Access, Equity & Inclusion; and, Community & Civic Engagement. Several action items and tasks have been developed under each priority and will continue to be added to or revised, as required. ï ó ï As a reminder to members of Council, the Committee’s revised Terms of Reference shifted the mandate to be more strategic. Previously much of the Committee’s work had been focused on program delivery. The two approved areas of focus for the current term support the Corporation’s community priorities of diversity and leadership & community engagement, as found in the Corporate Strategic Plan. Recognizing that volunteers bring a wide variety of skills, knowledge and experience with them, the Work Plan includes action items that could become very large in scale and would allow the skill sets of the committee members to be utilized to their fullest extent. The draft Work Plan has been attached to the report as Appendix ‘A’ and the Safe & Healthy Community Advisory Committee is requesting Council’s endorsement of the recommendation outlined herein. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None have been identified at this time.
