Kim Knowles, Laura Lee Dam, Julia Browne Staff: Shelley Adams, Jenn Grein Regrets: Corinne Cash, Corey Badcock, Jasminka Klacar Theron welcomed all members to the meeting. 1. Review of August Minutes ? no changes 2. Update on Voter Turnout Committee ? Shelley provided the committee with a response received regarding the future of the Voter Turnout Committee from Councillor Vrbanovic, included below. The committee stopped meeting as we were having a hard time finding times that worked for everyone. I suspect that part of the challenge may also have been that the committee came together sometime after the initial election and as time went on during our initial meetings, the 2006 elections were getting out of people's thoughts and the 2010 ones were too far away. I planned to get the group back together beginning this Fall as people start thinking about elections again and specifically November 2010. I am in the process now of looking at meeting dates throughout the Fall, looking at subject experts who might assist us, and contacting the committee members to get things going. The goal is to have recommendations by year end or early in 2010 so they can then be implemented by Randy and his team, as well hopefully get people to start thinking about the elections, especially since we have 4 new wards. 3. Feedback on City Hall 101 ? Shelley passed along a hand out on ‘How Municipal Government Works – A Guidebook for YOU – Free’. This pamphlet will be available to anyone who is interested in City Hall 101 or its contents. ? All feedback is welcome, both now and in the future, and will be passed along to Janice Ouellette, who will be maintaining this document moving forward. ? A suggestion was made for items in the table of contents to link to items through out the document, so when clicked, will automatically forward you to the specified area. 4. New Compass Kitchener logo options ? Nicole took the group through four options developed for a new and updated look for Compass Kitchener. ? The committee discussed pros and cons of the different options presented and preferences, exploring different ideas and options for all to consider. ACTION: ? Once updated, these will be circulated to the group for comment. September 23, 2009 CITY OF KITCHENER - 2 - 5. Values Research - discussion ? Reviewing each of the six identified segments, Shelley explained, these are a result of approximately 106 questions asked on the first Environics survey that inquired about residents values. ? Compass Kitchener discussed the differences between these segments and why they may be. ? Further, during ‘Who Are You, Kitchener?’ a 5 question brochure was created to determine where residents fit into these 6 segments. This could be completed again with this survey to reflect back for changes and growth. ACTION: ? Shelley to connect with Silvia DiDonato regarding Bluesfest survey to determine possible tie in. ? Values research to be considered further at a future Compass Kitchener meeting. 6. Advisory Committee All Committee Gathering rd ? The Advisory Committee All Committee Gathering is coming up on October 3 at Rockway Golf Course. During this meeting, we will be asking representatives of all advisory committees to provide three major workplan items and include a very brief explanation of each item. Each committees identified items will be placed on a large map, and committees will have the opportunity to literally connect their work with that in other committees, showing opportunities for collaboration and joint efforts. We hope the outcome of this will lead to committees working together more effectively to achieve great outcomes for the city and its residents. st ? Please advise Jenn by October 1 if you will be able to attend on behalf of Compass Kitchener. 7. Draft Diversity Strategy ? The internal working group for the Diversity Strategy has completed presentations to all but two of the Advisory Committees. Once complete, Shelley will finalize the strategy and return to Compass Kitchener. ? Feed back thus far has been merged in to the draft document. The content of the draft strategy remains intact with some small minor changes to language and order. ACTION: ? Shelley to return to the committee with finalized Diversity Strategy. 8. End of Term Survey ? The End of Term Survey has been awarded to Environics. The RFP process was complete as of Monday and a letter has been sent to them today to advise. ? We have fallen a little behind on the initial timeline goals, but since this is a repeat survey, with few changes, the process should move fairly quickly. ? The last survey will be circulated to members for review. Please identify any areas that may not be covered. Disregard pages 11-16 as this is the values piece we will be considering separately. ACTION: rd ? Please send comments to Jenn by October 3. ? Next meeting will take place October 28, Review of the draft questions will be on the agenda September 23, 2009 CITY OF KITCHENER - 3 - 9. General Business ? Jenn to verify the ODA information was sent out to committee. Yes, it was included in the meeting minutes. o ?
