Agenda Item Rod Reiger -Economic Update
Discussion -Rod said they are constantly developing ideas. There are a lot of
things on the go right now. Handout given to members in attendance. There is a
short promotional video of buyers of condos much like the ones at Yonge and
Eglington. Arrow lofts we are waiting for site approval.
Action Item -Rod said he would find out about leasing the main floor of the
parking garage.
Agenda Item Construction Update -Grant Murphy
There is one more week left of construction. Flower boxes will be done in Spring
of 2010. Additional funding of $1.2mm. Additional work to be done on Young and
College -There are timelines on getting things done. Road closures will be
minimal. There will be additional furniture. They will be adding more stuff on King
Street as time goes on. Grant to come back in January with additional update.
$1.2mm deadline to be done by March 2010.
Action Item -Street closures- DIRG is point of contact to find out about
road closures.
Action Item -Dan to be at November 17t" board meeting.
Agenda Item WRPS Update
Discussion - They are adding a 2nd officer downtown. They are making some
headway in the downtown area. Downtown ABM robberies are happening and
arrests have been made. City of Kitchener Duke Street garage and Delta Garage
have had break-ins. Mounted patrol training has started. Regarding needles in
downtown core they are trying to make some changes to improve this situation.
Sex trade workers -there is success with the John Schools starting to happen.
John Howard society is to launch John School shortly. The police horses will be
at Pride Stables. 3 officers go on a 3 week training program. The horses are
trained in Toronto. Official launch is May 20.
Agenda Item Financials/Exec. Director Update
Mark Garner discussed issues/pictures of garbage at halls lane by Classico's. It's
a City funded garbage bin. The procedure for disposing of garbage has been
distributed to businesses. Trudy to co-ordinate that distribution. The garbage
situation will be closely monitored by BIA.
Mark Garner and Erin Young presented recommendation to $123,000 and has
been passed to Michael May and to respond back once he hears update.
Mark Garner explained there has been a launch about the downtown core and
what we do.
Downtown Shopping program is in place. The torch is coming to downtown.
Talked about Christmas lights coming to downtown. Cory Bluhm is working on
lights downtown and its to be linked to Kris Kringle. The lights will be extremely
eye catching to the new downtown.
Action Item -Still need Treasurer if anyone knows of someone
Agenda Item In Camera Session -Erin Young
Executive Director evaluation. Surveys handed out. Mark to email surveys out as
well. Need to be back by Nov 10, 2009 for final summary and present to board at
next meeting.
Action Item -Mark Graham to email surveys out to everyone for
completion.
