BACKGROUND: The Springdale Sanitary Sewer project has been initiated to carry out the construction of the preferred alternative recommended through the Springdale Sanitary Pumping Station Class Environmental Assessment (EA) completed in 2009. The EA was initiated to address the operational and maintenance issues associated with the pumping station. The EA included the identification of several alternatives and selection of a preferred alternative. The preferred alternative includes the installation of a new gravity sewer using trenchless technologies, decommissioning and removal of the existing pumping station, and the abandonment of the existing forcemain. The construction of the preferred alternative is anticipated to commence in December of 2009. 1 ii) - 1 REPORT: Tenders were advertised publicly in The Record, the Daily Commercial News, on the City of Kitchener website and the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Association's Electronic Tendering Information System. Fifteen (15} potential bidders picked up tender documents, and by the closing date of Thursday November 12th, 2009, four (4) tenders had been received. The tenders were reviewed by G. Spere, MTE Consultants Inc., the City's Consultant for this project, and K. Mick, Design & Approvals Engineer, who concurs with the above recommendation. The tender received from Elgin Construction, St. Thomas, contained an arithmetic error that has been corrected as shown. This account receives funding annually. It is to be built up for large pumping station replacement projects such as Springdale. This tender is for the construction of a new sanitary sewer. Unexpended funding will be rolled over into next yearforfuture work.
