WARD(S) INVOLVED: All
DATE OF REPORT: December 9, 2009
REPORT NO.: CSD-09-075
SUBJECT: 2010 COMMUNITY GRANT TIER 1 -ROTARY CLUB OF
KITCHENERGRAND RIVER- DOWNTOWN MUDPUPPY
CHASE
RECOMMENDATION:
That consideration of the 2010 Tier 1 grant to the Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River to
assist with road closure costs for the Downtown Mudpuppy Chase be deferred to the
January 11, 2010 Community Services Committee meeting.
BACKGROUND:
At its meeting on November 16, 2009, Community Services Committee requested additional
information on costs associated with the road closure for the event and requested that options
on reducing those costs be provided by staff for the November 23, 2009 Council meeting.
Staff subsequently requested a deferral of this item to the December 14, 2009 Council meeting
to allow staff and organizers the time necessary to review options.
REPORT:
Staff has been meeting with Rotary Club organizers to identify cost saving options as well as
funding options for the race. Meetings are still to be held and, prior to Rotary Club formal
comment on the options, they need to be presented at an upcoming board meeting. A deferral
until the January 11t" Community Services Committee meeting will allow staff and organizers
the time necessary to review these options and for them to be discussed with board members.
COMMUNICATIONS:
The event organizers have been notified of the request to defer the report.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
