Report To: Development & Technical Services Committee
Date of Meeting: January 11, 2010
Submitted By: John McBride, Director of Transportation Planning
Prepared By: Dave Seller, Traffic Technologist (741-2369)
Ward(s) Involved: Chicopee -Grand River (2)
Date of Report: December 29, 2009
Report No.: DTS-10-003
Subject: ON-STREET PARKING REGULATIONS - DALEWOOD
DRIVE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That stopping be prohibited Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
on both sides of Dalewood Drive between Franklin Street and Eastwood Drive; and further,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Transportation Planning has received a request to review the existing on-street parking
regulations on Dalewood Drive between Franklin Street North and Eastwood Drive. The request
cited concerns regarding vehicles parking/stopping along both sides of Dalewood Drive during
school drop-off/pick-up times and suggested the prohibition of this activity.
REPORT:
Currently, on-street parking is permitted on both sides of Dalewood Drive between Franklin
Street North and Eastwood Drive for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours, as
outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138.
In an effort to prevent parents from parking while their children are dropped-off/picked-up, it has
been determined that a "No Stopping" area on both sides of Dalewood Drive between Franklin
Street North and Eastwood Drive, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
would be the most appropriate regulation to address these issues. The "No Stopping" area will be
added to the selected school enforcement route that by-law enforcement officers conduct
throughout the school year.
i-i
Providing a "No Stopping" area along Dalewood Drive will allow for safer two-way traffic flow.
The proposed stopping regulation will also provide an unobstructed view while residents are
entering/exiting their driveways.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The approximate cost for sign installation for the roadway is $500 and will be taken from the
existing sign maintenance budget.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Residents of Dalewood Drive were informed of the proposed "No Stopping" regulation in
October 2009. No objections and/or concerns were received.
