REPORT: This report is for information purposes only and to provide Council with an update of the multi year two phase project for the Doon Valley Golf Course expansion approved by Council in May 2007. Construction started in September 2008 after working over a year with our project consultants and Legal Department on gathering all final approvals for the project from various agencies; Grand River Conservation Authority, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Culture, City of Cambridge, including working on development of a conservation easement with the Region of Waterloo on the expansion lands south of Highway 401. As presented in the approved business case, this expansion project is being executed in two phases over two years to maintain the current golf course layout allowing the public to continue to play and the City to generate revenues; as well as allowing for grow in time for the turf grasses once seeding is completed in the various areas. Approximately sixteen months have passed since construction began and Phase 1 of the project is now completed. Phase 1 basically consisted of building out 10 new golf holes and renovating two others, to form the new 27 hole full length layout, consisting of a new 18 and 9 hole course. Along with this in phase 1, a newly expanded parking lot was constructed this past fall and will be completed in the spring. This new 27 hole course layout needs approximately two more months of grow in, and should be open for play in June of 2010. This is approximately two months beyond our scheduled spring opening of 2010 in the business plan due to acquiring project approvals. í ó ï Phase 2 is the construction of a new practice facility. This phase is well under way with rough shaping in place. The new practice facility consists of a full driving range, putting greens, practice bunker and a new 9 hole pitch and putt course for juniors, beginners and families. Seeding will occur in the spring and grown in throughout the summer in preparation for a September opening, weather dependent. The opening of the practice facility will be approximately one year ahead of the original schedule. Additional components of the project are in the design phase and these components are the grounds maintenance building expansion, along with the new golf cart storage and charging facility. Both buildings are scheduled for construction. In conjunction with these new buildings, there will be changes and upgrades in the electrical service upgrades throughout the facility. Opening celebrations will be planned in 2010 for both the new 27 hole golf course and the new practice facility. In the meantime, the golf website has been updated with a slide presentation of the new golf holes. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: To date the project is on budget. A budget summary is attached.
