DOWNTOWN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
June 11, 2009 City of Kitchener
The Downtown Advisory Committee met this date, chaired by Glenn Scheels;
with the following members in attendance: Councillor Christina Weylie,
Councillor John Smola, Alan Doherty, Bernie Nimer, Mark Garner, Lesley
Cooper, Tamara Minns, Don Zehr and Denis Pellerin
Staff in attendance: Silvia Wright, Cory Bluhm, Sandy Curzon, Tracey DeVille
Discussion Items
Minutes & Agenda
Approval of Minutes
On motion by Bernie Nimer, seconded by Alan Doherty, that the minutes of the
April meeting be approved.
Advisory Committee Updates
EDAC –
Bernie Nimer provided the committee with an update on EDAC, advising
that EDAC has been discussing the local economy and employment statistics, a
Brownfield presentation was provided to EDAC and the status of the Corporate
Visitation Program
SAHAC –
Denis Pellerin advised that they have been discussing the Terms of
Reference and making adjustment where required as well as the 2009 budget.
New Business
Draft Diversity Strategy
Ms. Silvia Wright provided the Committee with an overview of the Diversity
Strategy and provided them with copies of the draft document. Members were
asked to review the document and provide any comments to Tracey DeVille.
Property Standards Presentation
Mr. Shayne Turner provided the Committee with some general information
regarding the property standards policies and procedures.
Representatives from the Downtown Buildings Owner group invited Mr. Turner to
attend their meetings to assist in any way possible.
The Committee thanked Mr. Turner for his presentation and explanations of the
property standards policies and procedures.
Information Items / Updates
The following updates were provided to the Committee:
GO Transit – no new information at this time
DAC Subcommittees – Work has been completed on the Draft Terms of
Reference and will be brought forward in the fall. The Strategic Plan
Subcommittee will be meeting again after today’s meeting to continue updates
and review
Monthly Information Sheet – will begin in September
King Street Reconstruction – Phase 2 fencing starting, Phase 1 is getting up to
date, street will be ready for Cruising on King
Members were reminded that the meetings in July and August have been
cancelled therefore, the next meeting is September 10, 2009.
On motion by Denis Pellerin, the meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm to allow time for
the Strategic Plan Subcommittee to meet.
