REQUEST TO HOLD OUTDOOR MARKET - CENTREVILLE
CHICOPEE COMMUNITY CENTRE - 141 MORGAN
AVENUE - JUNE 16 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2010
RECOMMENDATION:
That Opportunities Waterloo Region be granted permission to hold an outdoor market at
Centreville Chicopee Community Centre, 141 Morgan Avenue, one day per week from June 16
to September 30, 2010 provided the required licence is obtained.
BACKGROUND:
Council Policy requires Council’s approval prior to a licence being issued to allow sales of food
and merchandise on City property.
REPORT:
A request has been received from Susan Josic, Resource Centre Co-ordinator at Centreville-
Chicopee Community Centre requesting permission to operate an outdoor market selling locally
grown fruits and vegetables at the Centreville Chicopee Community Centre, 141 Morgan
Avenue. This market will be held once per week from June 16 to September 30, 2010.
There is currently one other outdoor market operating in Kitchener. It is located at the Mill
Courtland Community Centre. The goal of the markets are to increase access to fresh local
produce, increase consumption of fresh produce, support the local agricultural economy and
increase social connections in the neighbourhoods.
Opportunities Waterloo Region is providing the funding for the operation of the market. This is
the second year of operation for this market.
