SUBJECT:
ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
APPOINTMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
That Helena Redshaw and Ann MacKenzie-Martino be appointed to the Arts and Culture
Advisory Committee to serve until November 30, 2010.
BACKGROUND:
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (ACAC) fulfills an advisory role, providing advice and
recommendations to Council and staff on arts and culture matters to further the City’s strategic
directions (quality of life, downtown vitality, leadership, diversity, community development,
environment).
The committee’s terms of reference provide for twelve members. This includes one member of
council. In addition, one of the members should be a youth member (18 – 30 years old).
Although ACAC is termed a “generalist” advisory committee, members are expected to be
knowledgeable about the arts and Kitchener’s arts community.
Two members have recently resigned due to changes in their circumstances. The committee
wishes to fill the vacancies.
REPORT:
Four interested candidates submitted their credentials for consideration: Hilary Abel, Helena
Redshaw, Betti Erb and Ann MacKenzie-Martino. Ms. Abel and Ms. Redshaw met the youth age
requirement. The qualifications of Ms. Redshaw and Ms. MacKenzie-Martino most closely met
the needs of the committee mandate. The resumes of all four candidates have been circulated
to Mayor and Councillors under separate cover.

COMMUNICATIONS:
All candidates will be thanked for their interest in the committee and notified of Council’s
decision regarding the appointments.
