Subject: CANADIAN UNION OF PUBLIC EMPLOYEES LOCAL 68 -
MECHANICS UNIT
RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council approve the terms and conditions contained in a Memorandum of Settlement dated March
17, 2010 in connection with the 2010-2012 Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public
Employees Local 68 Mechanics Unit. Further, that the Mayor and Clerk be authorised to execute any
documentation arising there from.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Following three meetings and Mediation the negotiating teams for Canadian Union of Public Employees
(CUPE) Loca168 Mechanics Unit and the Corporation arrived at a tentative agreement for a new contract.
CUPE Local 68 Mechanics Unit members ratified the Memorandum of Settlement on Monday March 22,
2010.
The essential items of change are as follows:
• Three Year Collective Agreement -January 1, 2010 -December 31, 2012
• Wages:
Effective January 1, 2010 2.00% across the board
Effective January 1, 2011 2.25% across the board
Effective January 1, 2012 2.25% across the board
• Benefit Improvements staged to come in over the life of the Contract
Masseur from $400/year to $550/year
Chiropractic from $400/year to $550/year
Vision Care from $425/24 months to $450/24 months
In addition, there was the creation of a new classification Lead Mechanic, tool allowance and premium
improvements for shift work, standby, and temporary lead mechanics all of which are staged to come into
effect during the life of the three (3) year Collective Agreement.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
All monetary items in this settlement package have been costed and the total increase is within the guidelines
established by Council.
