WARD (S) INVOLVED: Ward 3
DATE OF REPORT: June 13th, 2019
REPORT NO.: DSD -19-158
SUBJECT: Pedestrian Connection between Fairway Road and Traynor Avenue
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign any agreements satisfactory to the City Solicitor
which are necessary in order to implement the resolution of September 10, 2018 to move forward
with the acquisition of lands required to construct a walkway connection from Fairway Road
South to the LRT corridor and to construct a walkway connection from Traynor Avenue to the
LRT corridor.
BACKGROUND:
In September 2018, Council approved report DSD -18-124, "Pedestrian Connection between Fairway
Road and Traynor Avenue". In that report, staff were directed to investigate and pursue the acquisition
of lands required to construct a walkway connection from Traynor Avenue through the LRT corridor to
Fairway Road.
REPORT:
Staff have confirmed that a walkway should be constructed along the westerly property limit of both 259
Traynor Avenue and 642 Fairway Road South. Accordingly, staff have been in contact with the affected
property owners to negotiate terms. In order for staff to meet the conditions outlined in report DSD -18-
124, it is necessary that the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign any agreements satisfactory to the
City Solicitor.
City of Kitchener and Region of Waterloo Staff continue to work towards a 2019 completion date for the
installation of this crossing.
